Cats are known to be able to sleep up to 15 hours per day, with some especially lazy cats able to master a good 20 hours per day. The reason that their hunger for sleep is so apparent to us is that they are most active dusk till dawn, which means that they typically sleep at the times of day most humans are active and only really come alive to cause their mischief at nighttime!

Cats are instinctively a predator which means they are all set up for the hunt, which they tend to do mainly at night. This is normal in the rest of the animal kingdom where Lions and other large wild cats hunt mainly at night too. Our domesticated friends, even though they seem very homely, still keep some of these natural instincts going. I guess this is why you sometimes see your cat slinking in and out of the shadows in a bid to hunt down a mouse, as it is retaining some of the natural instincts it was born with.

Also, a cat’s sleeping patterns is a healthy mixture of deep sleep and light dozing! Deep sleep only lasts about 5 minutes and the doze phase usually lasts about 30 minutes or so. They drop in and out of the deep phase quite often. Also, like humans the younger kittens tend to sleep longer than the adult cats.

With all this cat sleeping going on, we decided to capture the best cat images we could, catching them in their cutest sleep state!
