This photo of a Brazilian dog rose up in fame in 2011 after the awful landslides in Rio De Janeiro. The dog, named Leao, sat by his owners grave for days and refused to leave. This photo was taken on the second consecutive day he lay by his owners side and shows the world that the loyalty of a pet can go beyond the grave. Very moving.

Powerful iconic photo of Quang Duc, A Buddhist monk who was part of 350 nuns and monks to protest against the Diem government in 1963, for religious equality. Duc was determined to make a stand and was helped by his fellow monks in making a powerful statement. They formed a circle around him, with one man laying a pillow for Duc to kneel on and pouring 5 gallons of gasoline over his head and lighting Duc into flames. This shows how far some will go in order to fight causes close to their heart.

In 2010, 100 South Koreans were allowed to drive into North Korea to meet long lost relatives after 57 years. This powerful and moving image is of a South Korean man waving his goodbyes to a relative as he makes his way back to South Korea after their time together. They were split apart during the Korean conflict of 1950-53. These reunions might offer the last chance of the Koreans spending valuable time with their parents, siblings and long lost family members.

During the Vancouver riots in Canada, June 2011, this powerful photo was taken by Rich Lam and shows Australian Scott Jones kissing his Canadian girlfriend, after she had been knocked down to the ground by a riot officers shield. The riots happened due to unrest after an Ice Hockey game, in which the Vancouver Canucks lost the Stanley Cup to the Boston Bruins. Australian Scott Jones was said to have turned down millions in potential advertising dollars for his act, claiming that he did not want any extra stress.
